Edit details#

The Edit details screen changes a project’s own fields: its image, name, status and, for managers, its visibility and owner. Open the project page, choose Manage and then Edit details. The Change visibility button in the private-project notice opens the same screen. The entry appears only for people who may change the project. See How access to a record is decided for who that is.

The form#

The form has these fields, in this order:

  • Image. An uploader for the project’s cover image, with no label. The help text reads “Upload a representative image (recommended 3:2 ratio, e.g. 1200x800 px). Accepted formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP. Maximum file size: 5 MB. Images that do not match the 3:2 ratio will be centre-cropped on display.” The field is optional.

  • Project name. Required, up to 255 characters. The help text reads “A clear, descriptive name for your project.”

  • Status. Required. The choices are Concept, Planning, In progress, Complete and Searching for collaborators. The help text reads “Current phase of the project lifecycle.”

  • Visibility. Two options, Private and Public. The help text reads “Who can view this project?” Only a manager sees this field.

  • Owner organization. The organization the project belongs to, chosen by typing to search the organizations in the portal. It is optional, and the help text reads “The organization that owns this project.” Only a manager sees this field.

A manager is someone who holds the Can manage level on the project, or holds a portal role that can change every project, such as Data Curator. If you hold only Can edit, the form shows the first three fields. The two hidden fields change who has rights over the project, which is why they stay with managers. See Contributors for the levels.

The buttons#

The form ends with Save & continue and Save & continue editing. Both save the form and return you to the project page, where a message says “Saved” followed by the project’s name. If a field is wrong, the form stays open with the error beside the field and nothing is saved.

What is not on this screen#

  • The abstract and the other descriptions are on Descriptions.

  • Free keywords are on Keywords.

  • The start and end dates are on Key dates.

  • The DOI, grant number and proposal ID are on Identifiers.

  • The people credited on the project are on Contributors.

  • Funding is shown on the project page, and none of the editing screens changes it.

  • The portal ID is given by the portal and cannot be edited.

What you can do here#

  • Rename the project, change its stage or replace its image: change the field and save.

  • Make the project public or private, or change its owner: change the field and save. These are manager-only.

  • Remove the project: How to delete a project.
