How to put contributors in order#

The order of the contributors is the order the record names them in, its citation included. Put them in order when the first person credited should not be the first person named.

Before you start#

You need to manage the record, which means holding the Can manage level on it or on the record above it.

People and organizations keep separate lists. A person moves only among the people, and an organization only among the organizations, so moving one never changes the other list.

Steps#

  1. Open the record’s page and choose its Contributors tab.

  2. If you have searched, choose Show everyone. The move controls are left out while a search narrows the list, because the list shown is not the whole list.

  3. For a person, choose the up arrow beside them to move them earlier, or the down arrow to move them later. For an organization, open the menu on its card and choose Move earlier or Move later.

  4. Repeat until the list is in the order you want.

The first in a list cannot move earlier and the last cannot move later. Their controls are switched off.

The result#

Each move happens at once, and the page returns to the contributor you moved. The new order is the order shown on the Contributors tab, on the record’s People card and in its citation.

A contributor you add later is placed last in their own list. Removing a contributor, or changing their roles, level or organization, leaves everyone else where they were.

The screen is described on Contributors.
