How to remove a contributor#
Removing a contributor takes them off the record’s credits. Do it when someone was credited by mistake, or when a person should no longer have the access their credit gives.
Before you start#
You need to manage the record, which means holding the Can manage level on it or on the record above it.
Two things can stop a removal:
A record always keeps a manager. The portal refuses to remove the only person who can manage it. Give someone else Can manage first, as described in How to let a colleague into a private record.
An organization cannot be removed while anyone on the record is credited from it. Change their organization or remove them first.
Steps#
Open the record’s page and choose its Contributors tab.
Choose Remove beside the person, or open the menu on the organization’s card and choose Remove. You can also choose Remove from this record on the Edit a contributor screen.
Read the screen. It asks “Remove” followed by the name and “from this” and the record’s kind, and lists what the removal does.
Choose Remove.
To change your mind, choose Cancel.
The result#
The contributor is no longer credited on the record or named in its citation. A person loses the access they held through being listed on it. If they hold a level on a record above, they keep that, and it is changed on that record’s own Contributors tab.
An organization a person was credited from stays under Organizations. Remove it separately if it should go too.
If you add the person again later, they start at Can view with no roles, and you are asked for their organization again.
The screen is described on Contributors. For why a record keeps a manager, see How access to a record is decided.
