How to delete a measurement#

Deleting a measurement removes it from the portal for good, together with its descriptions, dates and identifiers. Do it when a measurement was recorded by mistake or should no longer be held. The sample it was made on is not touched.

Before you start#

You need to be able to manage the measurement, which means holding the Can manage level on it or on the record above it. Someone who can only edit the measurement does not see Delete. See How access to a record is decided.

Deletion cannot be undone.

Steps#

  1. Open the measurement’s page and choose Manage.

  2. Choose Delete, the last entry, set apart from the others by a divider.

  3. Read what the page lists under “The following related records will also be permanently deleted:”. Those rows are deleted with the measurement.

  4. Type the measurement’s name in the field headed “Type the name to confirm”. A measurement with no name is confirmed by typing its portal ID instead, and the page shows you which. It must match exactly. The Delete button stays off until it does.

  5. Choose Delete.

To change your mind, choose Back. It returns you to the measurement’s page.

The result#

The measurement is gone. You arrive on the page of the dataset it belonged to, or on the datasets list if you may not open that dataset, and a message reads “Deleted” followed by the measurement’s name or portal ID.

The screen itself is described on Delete.
