Keywords#
The Keywords screen sets the free keywords a record is found under: words a person types, with no vocabulary behind them. Projects, datasets, samples and measurements all have it, and it is the same screen on all four.
How to reach it#
Open the record’s page, choose Manage, then Keywords. The address is the record’s own address followed by keywords/:
Record |
Address |
|---|---|
Project |
|
Dataset |
|
Sample |
|
Measurement |
|
You see the entry when you may change the record. See How access to a record is decided for who that is, and for what you are told when you ask for the screen without that right.
The field#
The screen has one field, Free keywords, with the help text “Words this record should be found under.” It shows the free keywords the record already carries. Type a word and press Enter to add it, and remove a word to take it off. The field accepts words that are not yet in the portal.
When the record has none#
The field is empty. Saving with the field empty removes every free keyword the record carries.
Keywords from a vocabulary#
Keywords chosen from a controlled vocabulary are a separate set. This screen does not edit them, and saving leaves any the record already carries as they are. Those are the keywords shown as badges under the record’s name on its page, so a free keyword does not appear there.
Saving#
Choose Save & continue or Save & continue editing. Saving replaces the record’s free keywords with what is in the field. You arrive on the record’s page, which shows “Saved” followed by the record’s name.
What you can do here#
Add, remove or clear free keywords, then save.
Leave without saving by going back to the record’s page.
Change the record’s other details: Descriptions, Key dates and Identifiers.
