How to end someone’s affiliation#
Ending an affiliation sets its end date, which stops the rights its type gave and keeps the record as history. You do this when a person leaves an organization.
Before you start#
You must be a superuser or an owner of the organization. The Affiliations screen lists only the affiliations of organizations you own, and a change there needs the right to manage that organization.
If the person is the owner, hand the organization to someone else first, because ending an owner’s affiliation leaves the organization without an owner. See How to transfer ownership of an organization.
Steps#
In the administration interface, open Community and select Affiliations.
Find the affiliation. Filter by Type if the list is long. Each row shows the person and the organization.
Open the affiliation.
Enter the date the person left in End date. Use a year (
2024), a year and month (2024-06) or a full date (2024-06-30), as precisely as you know it.Select Save.
The result#
The affiliation stays in the list with its end date and counts as past. The person keeps their record, and so does the organization.
The rights the affiliation gave end at the next permission check. An ended owner loses the right to manage the organization. An ended owner or administrator loses the right to edit the organization’s profile, and an ended member no longer counts as a member. You do not change the type.
Do not delete the row unless it was made in error. Deleting removes the history, and ending keeps it. The inline rows on a person’s or an organization’s change form have no date fields, so end an affiliation from the Affiliations screen.
The screen is described in Affiliations.
