How to approve a pending affiliation#

Approving a pending affiliation changes its type from Pending to Member, which gives the person the standing of a verified member. You do this after you have checked that the person belongs to the organization, one affiliation at a time, because no bulk approve action exists.

Before you start#

  • You can approve from the Affiliations screen if you are a superuser or an owner of the organization. That screen lists only the affiliations of organizations you own, and a superuser sees all of them.

  • If you hold the Community Manager role without owning the organization, approve from the person’s own change form, as described after the steps. The Portal Administrator role holds no right over affiliations.

  • Approving to Admin or Owner rather than Member needs the right to manage the organization. Only an owner or a superuser has it.

Steps#

  1. In the administration interface, open Community and select Affiliations.

  2. In the Type filter on the right, choose Pending. The list shows each pending affiliation with its person and organization.

  3. Open the affiliation you have verified.

  4. Change Type to Member and select Save.

To approve from a person’s change form instead, open the person under Community → Users, change Type in the affiliation row to Member and select Save.

The result#

The affiliation no longer appears under the Pending filter. The person holds the type Member for that organization. To reject an affiliation, delete it from the same screen, or leave it as Pending.

No permission is written when you approve, because an organization’s management right follows the owner affiliation only. See How contributor accounts and credits work.

The screen is described in Affiliations.
